Why it survived
Turns out there's a demographic that genuinely wants to wear a radioactive kitchen appliance on their chest—specifically the people who think the 1950s were both aesthetically perfect and also a cautionary tale. The hazmat yellow did the heavy lifting here, reading as either ironic retro-futurism or a legitimate warning depending on the viewer's caffeine intake, which apparently covers enough bases to move units.
